Hello!

The first semester of 2024 has been full of activities and new project launches for the Euroregion Pyrenees Mediterranean. Up to a total of 5 projects have been launched and there are already 8 ongoing European projects with the participation of the Euroregion!
Furthermore, the Euroregion is preparing its anniversary, as we will celebrate its 20 years in a big way!

Launch of the AFLE call

Officially inaugurated on April 4, 2024 in Banyuls-sur-Mer, the Eastern Coastal Functional Area (AFLE) addresses the challenges of the coastline between the Aude estuary and the Ebro delta and is part of the INTERREG VI-A Spain-France-Andorra Programme (POCTEFA 2021-2027) funded by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

As you all know, a picture is worth a thousand words, and that's why we present to you the new @aej_epm logo! It represents territorial unity, cultural diversity and the young voice as a symbol of the assembly.

On April 19th we held the Plenary General Assembly where we took stock of the situation, the transfer of the presidency of the Balearic Islands to Occitania and future projections.

Trip to Brussels

On March 19th and 20th, several members of the AEJ had the opportunity to visit and get to know the European institutions thanks to the Euroregion and the office of the European Commission and the European Parliament in Barcelona.

HIGHLIGHTS

The general objective of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the cross-border area through cooperation.

The POCTEFA programming period (2021-2027) integrates the new political objective (OP5) of “a Europe closer to citizens” in order to promote the integrated and sustainable development of the territory and the local initiatives that may arise.

Saving and reusing water in the tourism sector

The final conference of the LIFE WAT’SAVEREUSE project brought together senior political representatives, tourism sector actors and partners of the European project in Palma to obtain an overview of the progress and recommendations on the circularity and sustainability of water use.

It is created by and for young people around the priority of making a greener Europe: it adapts the most relevant themes of the European Green Deal to a Euroregional approach.

Participation of young people from the Euroregion in the Green Deal

Young people from the territory will meet to actively participate, have a voice and make proposals within the framework of the project and its implementation in that territory. 🌳🌿

🟢 We have already made animations in Catalonia and Occitania!🟢

Within the framework of the project, various animations have been carried out in new opportunity centers in Catalonia and Occitania. The young people have been able to learn first-hand about the repercussions of the European Green Deal in the territory and make proposals. 🌳🌿

SMART GREEN WATER

Kick off Meeting | 05/03/24

The Euroregion is the leader of the Smart Green Water project, which wants to promote the digital transformation of agriculture and water savings in southwestern Europe as part of the Interreg SUDOE program.

- Project objectives-
The great challenge for agriculture in the SUDOE territory is to face the consequences of climate change, in particular the increasingly frequent drought episodes. Therefore, it is necessary to create the conditions to promote the resilience of agriculture by improving water use.

To face this challenge, the digital transformation of agriculture is essential and the support for the resulting digitalization will guarantee a more efficient agricultural sector in the use of water.

Fashion Forward

Kick off Meeting | 7-8/03/24

Launch of the Fashion Forward project of the SUDOE program in Barcelona.
The main objective of the project is to promote the transformation of the SUDOE fashion industry, especially in rural areas, towards a more sustainable, intelligent and digital model adapted to the new European regulations.
The Euroregion team will be responsible for the study on the water cycle in the textile industry of the SUDOE region and for the capitalization of the project.

CARBON FARMING MED

Kick off Meeting | 29/02/24

Carbon Farming Med, a project financed by the Interreg Euro-MED program, seeks to promote the entry of the agricultural sector of the Mediterranean region into the carbon credit market.
The project will focus on adapting the methodologies for measuring, reporting and verifying the amount of CO2 that can be captured and stored in agricultural soils thanks to the application of new agricultural and agroforestry practices.

The main objective of the project is to help farmers develop a sustainable and resilient Mediterranean agricultural system and, at the same time, encourage their entry into the carbon market to obtain another source of income.
This objective will be achieved by optimizing regenerative agricultural practices in a Mediterranean context and providing the necessary tools to facilitate the adoption of carbon credits in the market (from the perspective of the seller and the buyer).

The LocAll4Flood project, funded by the Interreg Euro-MED programme, aims to reduce the risks associated with flash floods in small hydrographic basins and non-perennial rivers, combining prevention, adaptation and mitigation actions.

We welcome Sergi Pérez, who has fully integrated into the team for his internship in communication and European projects!
Anouck Moulin will also be with us until this autumn, as an Interreg volunteer who ensures the proper functioning of AFLE.
We are delighted to incorporate Flora Bacquelaine back into the team for a few months, as Culture, Tourism and Youth projects leader. She is replacing Lorena Abelenda Castro during her maternity leave. Congrats!
