2008 Youth and Sports Euroregional Meetings in Port-Leucate

The Youth and Sports Euroregional Meetings enabled children between the ages of 10 and 12 to take part in sports and cultural activities every year. The project was part of the Euroregional cooperation agreement between Midi-Pyrénées, Languedoc-Roussillon and Catalonia and was organised by the Committee for the Organization of Cultural and Sports Meetings Pyrenees Mediterranean, a non-profit association, the USEP Regional Midi-Pyrénées Committee, Languedoc-Roussillon Regional Committee and UCEC Catalunya.

The Pyrenees Mediterranean Youth and Sports Meetings were a Euroregional event that welcomed hundreds of children from the Euroregion Pyrenees Mediterranean every year and was structured around 2 axes:

• A sports axis: multi-activities and alternative sports on the beach.
  •   An axis of popular and cooperative games in order to discover the different cultures through music and dance

The main aim of the project:

• Educate citizens through sport.
  •    Foster cultural openness and knowledge of other peoples.
  •    Instil a sense of Euroregional belonging.
