Environment and sustainability

Background

The Euroregion is a sustainable region that preserves its resources and prepares for the challenges of climate change (adaptation and mitigation) for 2030.

ENVIRONMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY

The Environment, Climate and Energy Commission of the Euroregion Pyrenees Mediterranean leads actions in the field of environment and sustainability, with the aim of building a resilient territory prepared to face the challenges of climate change. This commission coordinates the policies of the three members of the Euroregion and drives projects that promote the energy transition, the protection of ecosystems and the sustainable management of natural resources.

The preservation of the environment is one of the fundamental pillars of the Euroregion Pyrenees Mediterranean. Faced with the climate emergency, the Euroregional territory is particularly sensitive due to its island and mountain ecosystems that require coordinated measures. The 2021-2030 roadmap establishes as a priority the response to climate emergencies and the ecological and energy transformation as well as the protection of biodiversity and natural resources, with special attention to water, a common good that is increasingly threatened.

The Euroregion works to strengthen research and public awareness, promote sustainable agricultural, fishing and forestry practices, and guarantee a just transition towards clean energy models. The goal is to achieve energy sovereignty before 2030, promoting renewable energies and supporting citizen self-consumption projects through innovation.

Commitment to the environment not only responds to an ecological need, but is also an opportunity to build a more resilient territory, capable of facing the challenges of the future with a shared and sustainable vision.
