The Innovation and Tourism Commissions of the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Euroregion work together to promote a model of smart, sustainable and competitive development, in line with the objectives of the 2021-2030 roadmap. These commissions coordinate initiatives that promote research, digitalization, the sustainability of the tourism sector and the transition towards a green and inclusive economy.
The Euroregion will build a sustainable, competitive, circular economy by 2030 that is carbon-neutral and based on digital transition.
The 2021-2030 roadmap aims to accelerate this transition through investment in strategic sectors and the promotion of balanced growth across the region, connecting inland areas, mountainous regions, the coast, and the islands.
To achieve these objectives, the Euroregion has established four priorities through its Euroregional Strategy for Smart Specialisation (RIS3):
Finally, the objective also includes promoting a first-rate innovation ecosystem where companies, research centres and institutions work together and create synergies.
The Euroregional Roadmap for 2030 includes innovation as a cross-cutting theme in the service of sustainable development in the Euroregional territory, based on a competitive economy that is circular, carbon neutral, and supported by the digital transition.
One of the Euroregion’s objectives is to become a leading center for cooperation in innovation. Therefore, the Euroregion issues calls for projects or expressions of interest to achieve these objectives and support the Euroregional economic fabric and, in particular, the innovation capacity of Euroregional SMEs. To this end, it relies on regional development agencies and sectoral clusters present in the territory through the CESAM project (Circular Economy and Sustainable Solutions for the Agri-Food Sector in the Mediterranean). The CESAM project aims to promote the new European path towards a circular economy model and contribute to the objectives of the 2030 Agenda by promoting innovative investments by SMEs. The project seeks to expand and strengthen innovative agri-food value chains, encouraging interregional investment in sustainable solutions. All this is being developed thanks to the collaboration between Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and Occitania, which allows for the strengthening of synergies and the exploitation of shared potential in innovation. More information is available on the official CESAM website.
The new Euroregional Roadmap for 2030 identifies tourism as a key and competitive sector capable of driving a circular and transformative economy within the Euroregion.
In this context, the Euroregion acts in the Mediterranean area by promoting the concept of “blue growth,” mainly linked to water and sustainable tourism. To achieve these objectives, cooperation projects are being developed that reflect the richness and diversity of the Euroregion. Among these projects, the AMI Gastronomie stands out, promoting educational exchange in the hotel and gastronomy sector, encouraging training and innovation in strategic areas for sustainable development.
