CITIZENSHIP AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY

Background

Citizenship, social cohesion, integration, and culture

The Culture and Higher Education and Research Commissions of the Pyrenees Mediterranean Euroregion work together to strengthen social cohesion, shared identity and the training of new generations, placing citizens at the center of the Euroregional project for 2030.

Reinforced social cohesion is a priority for the Euroregion, which is committed to a strong culture with a Mediterranean Euroregional identity.

The Euroregion Pyrenees Mediterranean places culture, languages, higher education and youth at the heart of its joint project, viewing them as drivers of identity, cohesion and innovation.

  • The Culture Commission promotes cooperation between the three territories to promote artistic creation, the dissemination of heritage and citizen participation, through programs such as annual cultural subsidies and the map of cultural actors. Culture and heritage, including linguistic heritage, are tools for strengthening citizen participation, promoting talent and fostering a shared identity between Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and Occitania, through programmes such as annual cultural grants and the map of cultural actors.
  • In the linguistic sphere, the promotion of Catalan and Occitan is consolidated through initiatives such as the CREAOCCAT competition, which supports young creativity and the vitality of local languages.
  • In parallel, the Higher Education and Research Commission promotes university and scientific cooperation with joint projects and mobility programs such as Eurocampus Vouchers, which strengthen the training and research of new generations.
  • Finally, young citizens take centre stage through the Euroregional Youth Assembly and initiatives that promote sport, entrepreneurship, equality and social cohesion, consolidating the Euroregion as a European and Mediterranean benchmark committed to a sustainable, inclusive and participatory future.
